It's always nice to get out of town for a few days. I always love being up at the lake. I feel like when I say the lake people always understand. I know when I think of Lake Winnipesaukee I picture the beauty, I think of feeling the water, and channel back to a balanced state of mind even if only for a moment. Coming back I felt good. Had a few days off from running, and it was time to get going.
Wednesday, I was planning a day with my friends Kristin and Nick who was back in town visiting from Colorado. I got out on the trails early and planned on running 5 miles. Looking back I should have shot a little lower and done 3 miles. My knee would've been good for 3 miles, but I was already committed to the 5...
On a run when something starts to hurt you still have to get home some how. I walked for about a half a mile to give my knee a rest. But, walking takes forever. I'm a runner not a walker.
Looking ahead at the trail, I decided I would run the rest of the way back (1 mile). The faster I ran the sooner I would be done. Son's Gonna Rise By: Citizen Cope began playing on my shuffle. Another perfect song. I played it twice in a row :) I rediscovered my strength in that mile with the help of this song and ran a 7:00 min. mile. I was so happy for that run to be over! Hah.

Even though I finished out the run strong (4.5 miles on the day) It was a bit discouraging that my knee was still bothering me. Injuries no matter how big or how small in running are always challenging to overcome. They usually mean no running... hopefully just with decreasing the millage, stretching, icing, and doing some strengthening exercises I'll be good to go.
I think it's my IT band where it connects to my knee that has been bothering me. I'm so use to hip problems and shin problems, this knee stuff is new for me. Hoping to tackle this injury and continue on with my training.
