CAMP WEEK
Every year for the last…
9 years I have been working at The Greater Derry Running Camp (Wow).

It’s a fun week and it always goes by fast. My introductions over the last 9 years have been something like this...
I run here for Pinkerton Academy.
I have run for Pinkerton and I will be attending and running at Keene State College.
I run for Keene State and am a Physical Education Major.
I ran for Pinkerton, Keene State, and am now a Middle School Phys. Ed. Teacher….
One thing has remained the same… Hi, you can call me Titus.
It's crazy because I can recall these various stages of my running and my life that I was in. I've grown with this camp just as my campers have grown from one year to the next.
It's nice seeing the campers return, they get taller, faster, and I like to think when they run by my young'n group they think: Aw, I remember how fun it was to be in the “little camper 2 mile group”…
I coach a group of 15-20 5th-7th graders for the week. We learn the basics of a good running routine (warm-ups/cool downs and stretching), we RUN, we discuss individual form and running mechanics, we learn track etiquette, basic race strategy, and of course we have fun! We play tag games and everyone gets a freeze-pop.
What is really special about this camp I think is the introduction the campers get into the running community. A community that perhaps they haven't experienced before or perhaps one that their parents and friends may not understand. It's an opportunity for them to connect with other campers their age in the area that may go to different schools.
The running community is a unique one. We run together, we cheer for one another, and we push each other to go further/faster/harder. It's this community that makes all of us stronger individually as runners, more invested in our sport, and take greater pride in what we do because we are sharing it with others.
