Now I really don't think that I broke a mirror, I don't believe my path has been crossed by a black cat, nor do I think I have walked under a ladder... however, in the last 24 hours the number of things that have happened to my body are ridiculous.
On my adventure with my friends Kristin and Nick the other day we went over to The Deep Hole in Gilsum, NH. It's a swimming hole along the Ashuelot river. When we got to the spot I was taken back a bit, Wow. It's just so cool that this is just here. It's an area I definitely intend on going back to just not after a rain storm. In some spots the current was strong and then it would pool up. I jumped off the giant boulder into the famous hole. I was nervous. I climbed up the boulder and looked down.. YIKES! I was UP there.
With some encouragement from my friends, finally I was like O.K., C'mon Sarah, just do it..... and with a scream I leapt off the gargantuan rock. What an adrenaline rush! We explored down river a little bit. The thing about going down river was we had to battle the current coming back up. It definitely took some team work and was a workout. In the process my hand was bitten by a spider, I scrapped my knee on a rock, and I dropped a glass water bottle on the top of my foot shortly after our river adventure. (3 bad things so far...)
It was a beautiful day in Keene. It was nice walking around and enjoying it with some close friends. However, my body just felt exhausted. My knee was definitely a little sore walking around. My friends hit the road (bad thing #4?) and I hit the bed.

That night while I was icing my knee with a freeze pack, I burnt my skin (bad thing #5). Yes, this can happen, that's why moms everywhere always wrap up the ice pack in something before giving it to their child. It was a horrible stinging sensation. I was so defeated by the day at this point, I thank my caring boyfriend for Google-ing WHAT TO DO IF.... and comforting me.
Things just weren't really going my way.
The next morning I had planned a day with my new friend Kayla! We biked out to Rabbit Hollow Rd. in Swanzey, NH for a little hike. I wanted to show her the rocks that lay among the trees. Unfortunately I did not anticipate the bugginess of the hike.. I haven't encountered horseflies that vicious in a long while (bug-attack bad thing #6). We celebrated our journey with a North Carolina Brew, Elm City IPA Natty Greene's Brewery Co. Greensboro, NC. Delish.

Our adventure continued another couple of miles up the road to Swanzey Lake. It was so nice out. My friend Paul let us crash his dock. The water was perfect! So refreshing. We stayed in the water for awhile. I wanted to dive in from the raft (around which we were swimming). I climbed up, and we must have just been finishing up a story. THEN with a crash, my leg feel THROUGH the wooden raft. I scraped my inner-thigh on the way down. Ouch. (BAD THING #7)

I rested there on the raft for a few minutes to regain my composure. The worst part was that I had to get BACK into the water to get to the main dock. Luckily I had brought the ace wrap! And here you were laughing at me before... I wrapped up my leg up with ace wrap (I think I'm always going to carry one from now on) and Kayla and I biked the 6 miles back to my house. In all I think we had at least a 15 mile day on the bikes which was awesome.
We ended the afternoon with a little meal by the creek off Arch St. Even with all of the bad stuff, it was an awesome day. What I enjoyed most about my day was how in awe Kayla was, she is from North Carolina; and though she has lived here for a few months and has experienced many beautiful places in the US she saw what our little area has to offer.
She was so genuinely appreciative of the 'tour' and I was enjoying sharing these spots with someone. She kept saying how beautiful it was. Which is something I see and appreciate wherever I adventure too (hence, all of my pictures!). Keene isn’t really a traveled destination, I'm sure most of you don't live in travel destinations either. I think we should all make more of an effort to explore the little areas around where we live; because there is more beauty out there for each of us to discover or rediscover.
Even with all of the things that I could have let ruin my last couple of days...
In short, don't let things ruin your day, redirect your focus/attention to the big picture.
The beauty.
